Funding appeal 2023

Since 2020 there were 2 major projects in progress at the East Lancashire Railway on our Bogie Brake Third carriage 1474 and Pug Saddletank 19.
The images show the completed work.

There was successful trial running of carriage 1474 as seen in image above and its expected return to its Worth Valley Railway base was completed in time for running with our other 3 carriages in their Vintage Trains on Sundays from 19th June to 17th July 2022.

Pug 19 passed its final insurance steam test on 29th April 2022 and will be based at the East Lancashire Railway although is expected to be in demand for visits to other railways as was the case with our other Pug 51218 when it was in steam.
19’s first trial run on the main line was to Heywood and Ramsbottom with a short freight on 19th May 2022, which was successful.
It featured in their event on 18th and 19th June 2022 celebrating the centenary of the L&YR and L&NWR Railways in 1922, and 19 hauled its very first passenger trains.

The expenditure on both projects unfortunately went above the expected costs for a number of reasons, so despite excellent  response to funding appeals in 2021 and 2022, it has been necessary to use the reserve funds of the Trust to meet the costs.

We have therefore left open the appeal funds and hope that you will be able to help to make up the reserves, details of how to do this can be found here – this opens a new window with a document in pdf format which can be printed.
